The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art recently added an exciting and interactive dimension to the museum Rooftop Sculpture Garden: Meg Mitchell’s Tenacious Numismatic Hops Exchange (TNHE): a hop garden for unyielding people. Familiarly referred to as the Hops Exchange, Mitchell’s sculptural installation is composed of six twenty-foot-tall aluminum beams that support the growth of hop plants. This site-specific, living artwork combines the visual language of industrial construction with an ethic of social engagement. Continue reading
It’s that time of year. You’ve just moved into your apartment, are finally settling in, and suddenly you’re already being asked about renewing your lease for the 2018-2019 lease term! You may be thinking “I don’t even know if I’m going to like who I’m living with or where I’m living now, so how am I supposed to choose for next year already?”. We totally understand!
Madison’s campus area market is a unique one. Almost all apartments in the campus area begin leasing for the following fall nearly 11 months in advance. It seems crazy, we know, but MPM adheres to this schedule in order to be as fair and efficient as possible for our residents and property owners.
Whether you are living alone and want to meet some of your neighbors, or you live with your friends and you all want to make some new friends, meeting new people in your apartment community is easier than you may think!
Introduce Yourselves to Your Neighbors
Don’t be shy. Say hi and introduce yourselves while in the hallway, getting your mail, in the parking area, or even walking your dog. Spark up a conversation or at least exchange names so that you can have a conversation in the future.
Summer is coming to an end, but we have one more chance at a last hoorah before it’s back to school. This weekend is Labor Day weekend and there are many fun and exciting events going on in the Madison area! We’ve put together a list of what to do, from music to food to exercise.
Friday, September 1st
SUP Yoga – Outdoors on the water at the Wisconsin Union at 7:15 am, $14/class.
Terrace Yoga – Terrace at the Memorial Union at 7 am, $7 per class.
Now that the craziness is over and you’ve had a few days to get settled into your new apartment, you can finally breathe a sigh of relief. While the stress of your actual move may be over, there are still a few things that you should take care of after moving to a new place in order to prevent headaches later. Check out these tips that we recommend to new residents:
Read the Lease
Even though you should have already read the lease at the time of the lease signing, it’s not fresh in your mind. Read it, and then read it again. You may have just initialed where you were told to, but you should have received a copy of your lease with your move-in packet or emailed to you. If you did not receive one, ask your landlord or property representative for a copy. Make sure you understand everything you are responsible for, like making sure your rent is turned into the office before the first of the month, not just postmarking it by then. Continue reading
Sharing a bedroom with another person can be difficult, but sometimes it has to be done. If you’ve lived in a dorm, chances are that you have already had to share a room with someone, so you know that it can be stressful. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be! We’ve put together some tips to survive sharing a bedroom with your roommate without going crazy.
Set roommate guidelines from the beginning:
Whether you’re best friends with the person you’re sharing your bedroom with or just meeting them for the first time, guidelines are important. Get together and set some ground rules. A few things to talk about are cleanliness, food, schedules, and guests.
