MPM is excited to have the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) be our guest blogger again for this week’s blog post. The MMoCA is located at 227 State Street. Exhibition hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 12-5 pm; Friday 12-8 pm; Saturday 10 am-8 pm; and Sunday 12-5 pm. Museum admission is free.
An emerging leader, the go-to person, a problem-solver, the source for fresh ideas – this is how you are known at work, but what do your walls say about you? Step-up your domicile with fine art that is a reflection of you. Replace tired framed prints with artwork you can tell the story about because you talked with the artist about the inspiration and techniques behind it.
Art Fair on the Square brings nearly 500 artists to the Capitol Square this weekend. An easy walk up the block, you can peruse the work of talented individuals chosen to be in one of the most competitive and highly regarded art fairs in the country. Think of the Farmer’s Market but twice as big, twice as long, and filled with art across price ranges that reflect many styles.
Taking place right outside your door, up on the Capitol Square, artists from across the country and around the state display original fine art and craft, handmade clothing, original photography, jewelry, and much more. If your walls are bare or show the beginnings of your style, now’s the time to develop your own art collection. Art Fair on the Square also hosts attractions of music, entertainment, international cuisine, traditional Wisconsin brats and beer, and locally-sourced fare. Art Fair on the Square truly offers something for everyone, having fun is just an added bonus.
For 58 years, crowds have flocked to Art Fair on the Square, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art’s (MMoCA) biggest fundraising event. This event helps keep admission to the museum free, where visitors can experience artwork by internationally known artists like Do Ho Suh and Frank Stella as well as emerging artists such as Kambui Olujimi and Rashaad Newsome. Art Fair on the Square also helps keep MMoCA’s education programming free – connecting 25,000 children with the transformative power of art and creative expression. MMoCA often covers costs for transportation and substitute teachers to help schools afford the field trip to the museum.
Art Fair on the Square continues to be one of the largest art fairs in the Midwest and is rated among the best fine art shows in North America. Hours for this year’s fair are Saturday, July 8 (9 am- 6 pm) and Sunday, July 9 (10 am- 5 pm).
Don’t miss this chance to buy artwork that says something about you. -MMoCA
